Art by Alison Van Pelt

Monday, March 24, 2014

Well, it's Monday.... Y'all ready to do this?!  I decided over the weekend that I'm going to try and attack this week with renewed energy.  I spent most of the weekend with my rump on the couch watching some of the best March Madness Basketball I've seen in years.  Duke, bless their hearts, took a surprising loss in the first round.  Wichita State showed everyone that they can play with the big boys and my Tar Heels just couldn't squeeze out a win against Iowa State.   A big shout out to Roy and the boys for giving us Heels a season we can be proud of!!!   GO HEELS!!  With that said I have some big news to share in the coming weeks.  Southern Distinctions will be going through some major changes.  Details will be coming soon.  There will be a fantastic guest blogger that I can't wait to share with everyone and some major projects are underway that I just know you're going to love.

Now, let's start this week off right and see the incredible work of Alison Van Pelt.  When I first came across her paintings I was immediately taken aback.  This California girl has such a unique artistic vision and ability.  It's hard not to be in awe of her work.

Alison Van Pelts work is influenced by the photo realist style, but I find her paintings both haunting and ethereal.  These oil on canvas pieces are more of a whisper or idea of an image.  Her canvases are currently held by some of the most important collectors in the art world and I fully understand why.  One of her pieces from the All American series has been added to my Art Must Have list.
