When I say "Pastel" what comes to mind? For me it's nursery rooms or Easter Sunday baskets and holiday dresses. Sometimes I imagine the explosion of the super sweet colors in my closet and interiors in the 80's. If you asked me outright if I liked pastels I would tell you no, but that would be a lie. Saying 'No' is more of a knee jerk reaction. If you were to go into my closet you would see a favorite pair of my skinny jeans in a perfect shade of mint and several tops in soft pink that I can't live without. The truth is .... I love pastels....done right. Pastels have always been used in interior design, but often it's so subtle (like the jeans in my closet) that I don't register it as a PASTEL.
This soft pink headboard is the perfect touch of color and contrast in this feminine bedroom.
This living room is a great example of 'pastels done right'. There is balance and harmony. Nothing is overpowering you making you want to say "gag me with a spoon".
A simple touch of mint is fresh and uplifting in this natural coastal kitchen.
I love a pastel yellow. It feels like sunshine and who doesn't love that these days.
This room is a master class in balance. Normally this would overwhelm me, but this shade of pink feels mature and sophisticated.
These butter yellow cabinets have been on my wish list for a while now. I never thought I would love yellow cabinetry until I saw these babies.
Touches of pastel fill this living room creating a young and vibrant space.
Once you start looking around it's easy to see that pastels are, and have always been, beautiful.....in moderation. With the spring season on everyone's mind I'm sure we'll be seeing an influx of pastels in the coming days. Hopefully the abuse of these endearing colors is long in the past along with shoulder pads, hyper color sweats, sponge painting and carpeted bathrooms. There are some things that just should never come back in style!
