The Space Between

Wednesday, January 15, 2014

One thing I absolutely admire is smart and stylish use of space.  Our previous home was poorly planned and I was constantly thinking of creative ways to increase storage.  Having moved into a slightly smaller rental home I find myself facing the same issues and searching for solutions.  Sure, I could just chuck everything out.  I mean how much do we really need?    But, I fear it wouldn't be long before we would be faced with the same challenges.   A wall of built-ins are the 'go-to' idea, but if you're short on space you may think they're out of the question.  The truth is that the storage built-ins provide may create much more space than they will take up in a room.  Remember it doesn't have to be a full wall of shelving.  These homes have found the best design for their personal space and added tons of style and function to their home.

Storage is a major priority as Bubba and I shop for our next home.  Since we are willing to do some renovating we are also looking at homes where we can create good storage.  Built-ins give a home a custom feeling.  If you are interested in building your own there are tons of tutorials available and amazing tips to help you save money on the install.  These will be a must have in our next home.

  1. I love a beautiful bookcase and they are wonderful for showcasing pretty things along with your book collection. The last image with the storage cabinets below are great so you can store a few pieces that aren't so pretty!! Happy Thursday ~

  2. I'm dying for built-ins in our house, but they're sooo expensive! I love them so much because I think they're gorgeous and I can't wait to display books and expensive knick knacks that my 2 year old thinks are toys :) Thanks for some beautiful examples!

    1. Hi Julia, you should check out some of the DIY tutorials for using ready made shelves and making them custom. It can really cut costs and have that same milled look. Thanks for stopping by~
