What is your "go-to" paint color and Why?
Benjamin Moore’s Classic gray – It’s very light and can look almost white, but the slight hint of gray gives it a warmth that makes it a welcoming neutral hue that looks great in almost every space.
What design trend are you loving right now?
I like seeing people having more fun with art.; whether they are painting pieces themselves or incorporating their children’s artwork into a space. I just coached a client through making a gallery of ceiling medallions from Lowes. All in all I like that is seems less serious. I believe good art is what you like, what makes you happy. So, if it turns out you happen to be the artist, how fun is that?
What do you consider to be the best investment piece for someone designing their home on a budget?
By far it would be investing it great textiles to accent your space. Beautiful pillows can totally transform an Ikea couch and make the space your own. Also, for those who are living in apartments, I recommend investing in high quality linen drapes as you’ll be able to take them with you when it’s time to move.
Where is your favorite place to shop?
I don’t shop much at all. I believe with both home and fashion to buy high quality pieces that you’ll love forever rather than more frequent trend items. For home, Etsy and Mecox Garden Supply offer endless sources of inspiration. For fashion, my uniform lately has been AG Jeans and blazers. I love Steven Alan for blazers. I’m petite and their cut is perfect for my frame (also the quality is amazing for the price). I am a skin care junky though so I do frequent Sephora, get Birch Box, and cannot wait to splurge on trying some Tata Harper products.
Who has inspired your personal design aesthetic?
When I helped Caitlin Wilson of Caitlin Wilson Design launch her fabric line, she instilled in me her love of color and pattern. Now I love playing with prints. It takes a bit of finesse to get the right balance for a client’s desired aesthetic, but once you strike it the fabrics make a room come to life. That said, I like the option to update for my personal aesthetic. So I tend toward clean lines & neutral foundation furniture then layer on colorful accents to make them pop. Also, I love styling vignettes, from coffee tables to entry consoles, it’s my jam. I was a home décor buyer at One Kings Lane so that definitely plays a part in my love of Foo Dogs, obelisks, & any objet in between!
What is your dream project?
I love doing neutral with bold pops of color and pattern. Having carte blanche for someone's sunny holiday home would be a dream.
